
The American Abrupt-Bulbed Lepidella - Amanita abrupta
This mushroom was still small - only 5-6 cm tall. It closely resembles Amanita cokeri, but has some key differences. It was white and had both large and small warts on the cap. Pinkish-brown staining on the bulb and peeling scales right above the bulb. White gills. Shaggy stem and a double ring.
Habitat: Growing on the ground in a mixed, disturbed forest, along a walking trail.

Named for the characteristic shape of its fruit bodies, this white ''Amanita'' has a slender stem, a cap covered with conical white warts, and an "abruptly enlarged" swollen base. This terrestrial species grows in mixed woods in eastern North America and eastern Asia, where it is thought to exist in a mycorrhizal relationship with a variety of both coniferous and deciduous.. more
