An obsidian beauty; resplendent in the sunshine and enjoying a leisurely stroll. The plumage so glossy, it presents as purple in places, even occasionally a flash of green.

The Australian raven is distinguished from the Australian crow in several way - one being the throat hackles, which are prominent in adult birds.

      1. You are more than welcome to add them. There are some that have to be hand-added (if not listed on Wikipedia), and that is where moderators come in! Posted 7 years ago
      2. Yes, if you know the species yourself, you're asked to identify it using the dialog yourself. Not only would that put proper credit to yourself, it also saves time for moderators, who are mere volunteers dedicating personal time. Moderators are here to help guide in the process: insist members do some research, correct identifications that are wrong, deal with system errors, etc. The best posts are those that need zero moderation :) Posted 7 years ago

    I've never noticed the hackles difference before.
    We only seem to get Little raven (Corvus mellori) in our parts.

The Australian raven is a passerine bird in the genus "Corvus" native to much of southern and northeastern Australia. Measuring 46–53 centimetres in length, it has all-black plumage, beak and mouth, as well as strong grey-black legs and feet.
