
American Idia - Idia americalis
Total length: ~12 mm. Gray forewings with jagged black lines that are boldest at the costa. Orbicular and reniform spots are rusty brown. A band of warm, brown shading is present beyond the subterminal line.
Habitat: Attracted to a light at night in a rural area.
The American idia or American snout is a species of litter moth of the family Erebidae. It is found from southern Canada to Florida and Texas. The wingspan is about 25 mm. Adults are on wing from May to October. There are multiple generations per year. The larvae feed on lichen and detritus, including dead leaves.
