1. That is a fantastic stipe! Posted 7 years ago
1. Yes. So far, it is looking like it may be the rarer Aureoboletus russellii!! :o I'm waiting for some input. The two are usually differentiated by the stipe viscidness (Heimioporus betula isn't viscid). I was just thrown off by the color! Posted 7 years ago
1. Is this the same mushie?
Boletellus russellii This mushroom was in bad shape when I found it, but I took some shots of it anyway because it was so interesting looking!

The cap was reddish brown (faded), dry, velvety, and had an inrolled margin. The pores were yellowish green and bruised when marked. The stem was reddish brown, 20 cm long, and deeply furrowed longitudinally. It was growing alone, on the ground, in a deciduous forest. I spotted it a couple years ago and am wondering if the genus has changed from Boletellus since then?

1. I have the same question as I remembered the name Russell's Bolete from an earlier post. Eol.org doesn't say anything about synonyms. Either way, we now have 2 species named Russell's Bolete, so I hope we can decide which binomial name is the accepted one. Thoughts? Posted 7 years ago
1. As of right now, the experts on Mushroom Observer are calling it Aureoboletus. Posted 7 years ago
1. Thanks, and are your post and that of Christine the same species? If yes, then I will merge Christine's species ID into the Aureoboletus record. Posted 7 years ago
1. Yep! They seem to be the same! Posted 7 years ago
1. It's hard to keep up with mushroom taxonomy ;P Posted 7 years ago
2. Done :) Posted 7 years ago
