
Golden Waxcap (Hygrocybe flavescens)
Habitat: Growing in leaf debris at the base of a ridge in a dense mixed hardwood/pine forest. Northwest Georgia.
Gills: white to pale yellow, notched.
Stipe: yellow, somewhat translucent.
Cap: bright (neon) yellow, slick (slightly sticky/moist).
Spore print: white.

Hygrophorus flavescens (Kauffman) Smith & Hesler syn. Cap 2.5-7cm across, broadly convex becoming flatter in age, sometimes with a depressed disc; margin incurved at first, sometimes upturned and wavy in mature specimens; bright orange, paler toward margin; sticky, smooth, then dry and shiny, margin striate when moist.
