Katydid Wasps (Sphex nudus)

Description:
Black Sphecid wasps mating on a flower head. Both have orange to brown legs. The male appears to have lighter hairs on its head and thorax.

Habitat:
Sunlit clearing near dense mixed hardwood forest. Perched on Hoary mountain mint flowerhead.
