
Violet Bitter Bolete (Tylopilus violatinctus)
Growing in pine mulch in a hospital parking lot in Atlanta, GA. Younger specimens are more purple. Older are more tan. Pores and flesh stain pink when cut/touched.
Flavor: EXTREMELY bitter.
Chemical Analysis:
Iron Salts: Gray→Green→Light yellow on pileus. Lavender on pores.
KOH: Flashes yellow on pileus. Creamy yellow→Brownish pink on pores.
Ammonia: Orangey brown to yellow on pileus.

Tylopilus violatinctus, the Violet Bitter Bolete, is a bolete fungus in the Tylopilus genus. Appearance:
Bitter white cap flesh. Violet cap ages through pink to tan, bruising violet. Pinkish, yellow-staining stem browns w/age, apex staying white.
