Steinitz' Shrimpgoby - Amblyeleotris steinitzi
The Steinitz' Shrimpgoby - Amblyeleotris steinitzi is white with 5 brown bars on head and body; dark iris, tiny yellow spots on both dorsal fins, narrow orange bars between dark body bars. Lives among sandy bottom, in holes which they shares with Alpheid Shrimps, which can be seen in the picture. Both the Goby and Alpheid Shrimp has a very interesting symbiosis relationship. The Goby acts as the guard at the entrance of the burrows the shares, signalling to the Shrimp if danger approaches. The Alpheid Shrimps are blind, thus they depends on the Goby to watch out for them, while they do the housekeeping of the burrows by clearing rubbles/small stones that falls into their burrow.
"Amblyeleotris steinitzi", Steinitz' prawn goby or simply Steinitz' goby, is a species of small fish in the family Gobiidae. It lives in association with an alpheid shrimp and is found from the Red Sea through the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific Ocean.
