The White-Speck - Mythimna unipuncta
Total length: 25 mm. Forewing was orange-brown with dusky scales. Orbicular and reniform spots are orange. A tiny, white speck touches the inner part of the reniform spot. A think, dark line slants inward from the apex.
I saw two of these moths attracted to the light on my deck. This moth can be a major pest on crops. I live across from a farm, so this is the perfect place for these moths to live - not so lucky for the farmers though.

"Mythimna unipuncta" is found in the Americas and in parts of Europe, Africa and Asia. Its original distribution is North and South America. It has been introduced to other places from there. They are known as armyworms because the caterpillars move in lines as a massive group, like an army, from field to field, damaging crops.

I'm not 100 percent sure, but I may have found a worn version of this today! I will have to double check, but those patterns look pretty close! Posted 7 years ago
