Young American Black Bear Track (Ursus americanus) By far the smallest track I have found so far! So adorable! <br />

  1. Nice one! Posted 4 years ago
    1. I've been extra careful this season, especially with doing some solo hiking out there! I've been singing and talking to myself more than usual. I DO NOT want to startle a mama bear with a cub! Posted 4 years ago
      1. I hear ya! Our bear population has increased around here. I was hiking alone a few weeks ago and was laying flat on the ground taking a picture of a mushroom when I heard a bear coming. It seriously freaked me out, but thankfully, it was more scared of me and ran away! That was my 2nd bear encounter in the past couple years - the one before ran away when it saw me as well. But, a mama bear with a cub could be a different story! I've realized that I'm way to quiet when hiking alone and need to start being louder :) Posted 4 years ago
        1. I usually talk to insects and things (quietly), but I knew I wasn't making enough noise. We are pretty sure we know where a den is, so I've been avoiding hiking alone in that area. I just recently started decided to start singing (usually gibberish) to make bears aware of me! Posted 4 years ago
          1. That would be funny if you came upon other hikers. I talk to frogs mostly and yell at flies, which scares others, so it should work on bears as well, I guess. I will try the gibberish...just for fun ;)

I have a hike I like, but avoid now because bears are in the caves. Definitely don't want to disturb them this time of year.
