Milkweed Weevil Oviposition Pits - Rhyssomatus sp. Female weevils use their long snouts to chew holes in the stems of milkweed. then, they deposit their eggs into these holes.  They chew several holes in a vertical line in the lower part of the milkweed stem, laying an egg in each.  The sticky latex from the plant oozes from the wounds to create raised, conspicuous blobs.<br />
