Cicindela oregona, subspecies guttifera I must have looked interesting chasing this bugger down... it flies and has the infuriating habit of just when you are getting close enough to take off and fly just a few feet down the trail... 1. It's like somebody has written a PDF for this moment exactly:
    https://www.enr.gov.nt.ca/sites/enr/files/reports/atlas_key_to_tiger_beetles.pdf

You'll probably find your match on page 1.

  2. Oh and I can concur regarding chasing tiger beetles. They wait until the very last moment when fleeing. Posted 7 years ago
    1. My recent encounter with my unknown tiger beetle was actually quite the opposite of that (surprising considering my experiences with the Six-Spotted Tiger beetle). It didn't seem to have a problem with sitting still for photos. After I walked away, it decided to make its escape! Posted 7 years ago
      1. Why can't all wildlife behave like this? I only need a minute of your time, you're making this difficult for both of us. Posted 7 years ago
