Midge - Stenochironomus hilaris

This cool bug is a female midge. It looks like she has a few mites near the tip of her abdomen. Hopefully it won't impact her fitness. It was very energetic and was rapidly walking all around the light. Total length was approximately 4 mm.

Attracted to a moth light in a rural area.

  The front legs were really interesting, not just because of their length, but because the midge wasn't walking on them. Instead, it was waving them around in front of itself - held up in the air, kind of like antennae. Posted 7 years ago
