Providencia vireo (Vireo crassirostris approximans)

  1. My first encounter with the island endemics, a very cute, inquisitive vireo, widespread throught.
I'll leave the taxonomy to the experts, though. This one, the San Andres vireo (which I'll upload soon), as well as various others from other Caribbean islands deemed to be distinct species all look pretty much exactly like the mainland mangrove and thick-billed vireos...

The Providencia vireo, (Vireo crassirostris ssp. approximans), is a small songbird found only on the small Colombian island of Providencia, off the coast of Nicaragua. It is at present treated as the subspecies of the thick billed vireo, but will likely be given full species status in the future.
