Copper underwing, Heesch, Netherlands
Henriette took this photo today in our garden with her iPhone whilst I was at work, so this is her contribution to Moth Week 2018 :)
In dutch named the "pyramid butterfly". Interestingly it shares a lot of characteristics with a species named the "fake (or mimic) pyramid butterfly" - Amphipyra berbera (Drab Copper Underwing). Enough similarities for somebody to write a detailed article to keep them apart (in dutch)

I based identification on key 3: the equal distance between horizontal lines, which is more diverging in the other candidate species. Furthermore, an expert confirmed it.

The copper underwing, humped green fruitworm, or pyramidal green fruitworm is a moth of the family Noctuidae. It is distributed across the Palaearctic region including north India, Korea and Japan.

I know we're just being silly, but when people are very serious and strong headed about some generalizations, I drop the above line. It kills all conversation and people hate it, because it's such an anti climax. The anticipation of the debate, the carefully prepared facts and statements and arguments...all worthless in one sentence. There's just....nothing.
It's a nice Jedi mind trick, feel free to use it on other topics, subjects.
By the way, JD is quite a power house of women, I'm sure you noticed. And I'm proud of that. Posted 7 years ago
I should probably give myself more credit--as there are things I notice that he doesn't. Maybe we just make a good team? Posted 7 years ago
Since I recently had an eye infection and was forced to wear glasses for a few days, I can now relate somewhat to wearing glasses. I'll be honest: I hated it with a passion. Posted 7 years ago
The reason I'm very relaxed about debates versus sexes or any other topic that has the potential to divide people is that the outcome is inconsequential. There will never be a clear outcome because of the nature of the question. Even if there would be a clear outcome, it still has no consequence.
For example, say it is true that women are better at everything, as a clear observable fact. What now? I'm still a man. I have to live with that fixed situation no matter the outcome. So nothing is gained or lost in any case. For the same reason, I do not debate religion or strong political opinions because there is no clear rational outcome, positions are fixed, and all energy spend on it is completely pointless.
It makes for much more relaxed living once you let this go. Sorry for going so far off-topic and rambling, bottom line for me is to take one individual at a time no matter their identity. And very luckily, JD seems to be a place where good prevails. It is quite frankly a source of hope for humanity for me, much needed at times. Posted 7 years ago
It must be an American expression if you don’t know it. Basically, it refers to someone who is a jokester or likes to tease people. Posted 7 years ago
