  1. A fresh catch, nice! Can you elaborate a bit more on the light you used? Posted 7 years ago
    1. I used an Escolite 395nm Ultraviolet 10W LED Flood Light paired with a cream/white canvas contraption on my back porch. You want to see it? :D Posted 7 years ago, modified 7 years ago
      1. Sure! I still have a question though: did you use that light simply because you had it available, or is in fact a light optimized for moth trapping? Posted 7 years ago
        1. Low cost, availability, AND its ability to attract moths. You probably already know, but many species of moths are attracted to UV light. BugGuide has a cool list of moths that have been seen at blacklights: https://bugguide.net/node/view/303187

I bought a Mercury Vapor bulb last year, but its filament broke within a day. I decided against buying another this year as they are pretty pricey!

          1. Thanks so much! Our guide in Colombia is considering bringing a UV light for our next trip in October, so I'm quite excited that this may work.

Good point in that article about bait too. Last year our guide suggested rotten fish with human urine. We skipped the urine part. Came back to the rotten fish one hour later and were just in time to see a vulture take off with the fish :)

            1. Oh my!

I am using lager and bananas as bait this year.

              1. I'm using rotten banana and brown sugar. Might add some mango tomorrow too. Posted 7 years ago
