White-tailed Deer Scat - Odocoileus virginianus
This scat was more fibrous and rounded than is typical for deer, although there were some typical pellets mixed in, which helped me differentiate it from rabbit poop. The texture and shape of deer scat can vary due to diet at different times of the year.
Normally, the pellets are pointed at one end and indented on the other end (normal for deer). Color is shiny and brown, when fresh. This pile clearly was not fresh.
Spotted in a deciduous forest. There were many similar piles in the area.
