Patriotic Bolete (Boletus patrioticus)
Nonstaining boletes found growing in grass/soil in a farm habitat in NE Alabama (Etowah County).
Flesh: Pink (turns slightly darker pink when cut)
Flesh of stipe: Yellow to pink
Pore surface: Immature?, yellow (see photo)
This may or may not be the southeastern doppelganger of Boletus patrioticus. It doesn't exhibit the same staining that is typical of B. patrioticus!
