Helmeted Squash Bug - Euthochtha galeator

Striped antennae with the third antennal segment dilated. Brown abdomen with 2 darker spots (with spines). Speckled legs with orange tarsi.

Spotted on vegetation at the edge of a meadow.

Hi Christine - I would be quite surprised if this would turn out to be an Assassin-Bug. To me it has all the makings of a Coreidae ... maybe you have better luck locating it there ? Cheers, Arp

  Thanks Arp. I agree and think it actually is that species because the description says that it is the only coreid in the eastern US whose nymphs have the 3rd antennal segment dilated. Posted 7 years ago
