Arbutus (Madrona) Tree
The lovely Arbutus tree is a rather messy one. Not the best to have in your yard, particularly in the summer when not only does it shed the old leaves but also sheds the old bark! Under the old bark is a beautiful green new “skin”. In fact the newer branches and trunks of the Arbutus are textured enough to feel like actual bare skin. It seems the ants are also interested and “photobombed” my shot.

''Arbutus menziesii'' is a species of tree in the family Ericaceae, native to the western coastal areas of North America, from British Columbia to California.
