Morning owl...
I was out bright and early at this spot where I knew a family of barred owls had successfully fledged three juveniles. I never found the juveniles but around 6.30 I saw this adult fly across the forest and disappear ahead of me. I walked along, trying to relocate it. At some point, I genuinely don't know if I heard something, or if it was just a weird instinct, but I turned around. The owl was perched on branch right above the path, maybe 3 meters off the ground, quietly looking at me. I had probably walked right underneath it!
The morning was overcast, but a couple a sun rays peeked out just at the right moment, lighting its face.
It stood for a while longer, before flying over me, and only then did I realize that it had caught a chipmunk! It perched on another branch not far off and after a few minutes enjoyed what was probably its last snack before going to sleep!
Possibly the best encounter I have ever had with an owl!

The Barred Owl is a large typical owl native to North America. It goes by many other names, including Eight Hooter, Rain Owl, Wood Owl, and Striped Owl, but is probably best known as the Hoot Owl based on its call.
