Nettle-humping beetle, Heeswijk, Netherlands
Rare occasion of a soldier beetle not humping a mate, yet still humping nettle or thinking about humping, most definitely. I'm of course joking, but not really. A few weeks later I came back to this place and saw hundreds of pairs, all mating. I could not find a single individual not in the act of mating.
As for the ID, species in this genus can look fairly similar. Statistically, it may be the most common species: Rhagonycha fulva, but I'll check it with an expert. Suggestions welcome. Unfortunately this is the only angle I have of this individual.

''Cantharis livida'' is a species of soldier beetle belonging to the genus ''Cantharis'' family Cantharidae.
