Meadow Spittlebug - Philaenus spumarius

Small, green froghopper nymph (spittlebug). It was about 5 mm long.

After hatching, nymphs cover themselves in a frothy "spit" made of tiny bubbles. The bubbles protect them from drying out and makes it difficult for predators to find them. Adult spittlebugs are called froghoppers.

I spotted this spittlebug, along with many others, on plants in a meadow.
