      I did! At a different location in Floyd County.
      Exsudoporus frostii - Frost's Bolete Bright red boletus fungus with red pore surface and deeply reticulate red stem. Pore surface exuding golden droplets was already bruised deep blue to purple upon inspection.<br /> <br /> Habitat:<br /> Growing under the mulch of several oaks and a few loblolly pines (this species has a mycorrhizal association with oaks and hardwoods).       One of my absolute faves for sure. This is one of the species that made me catch "the naturalist bug" a year ago. Yup, I've only been a SERIOUS observer for that long!

      Next time I think I will try out their edibility. Supposedly they make a nice hot and sour soup!

The Frost's Bolete

Previously known as Exsudoporus frostii. This bolete fungus is easily identified by its sticky red cap, dark bluing reaction, and golden exudate droplets.
