Common Brown Frog, Heeswijk, Netherlands A regular event during my macro shoots is to almost have a heart attack when this frog suddenly rushes away out of the blue. I would be standing still for a good 15 mins, intensely focused on finding or shooting some bug. So it was right next to me, all this time. "Rana temporaria" is found throughout much of Europe as far north as well north of the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia and as far east as the Urals, except for most of Iberia, southern Italy, and the southern Balkans. The farthest west it can be found is Ireland, where it has long been thought erroneously to be an entirely introduced species.
