  1. Cool, never saw one like this before. Would you happen to know its exact name? Posted 12 years ago
  2. I've been trying to figure it out. Haven't ran across another one with exactly the same markings, so still researching. :) Posted 12 years ago
  3. I'm tempted to say Tree Pipit or Corn Bunting.

Would help if we could know where this photo was taken.

  4. This was in southwest Virginia. I will try and geotag it. Just figuring all these things out. Loving the site so far :) Posted 12 years ago
  5. Ah. OK. I was only looking at UK/European birds. I think my guesses are wrong then. Posted 12 years ago
  6. OK. Think I've got it. Identified using http://www.whatbird.com Posted 12 years ago
  7. Looks right to me :) Thanks! Posted 12 years ago
  8. Those American Emberizid sparrows are awful, but it definitely can't be Baird's. Besides the fact that it's a secretive bugger restricted to the prairies of North Dakota, Montana, and Saskatchewan, the facial pattern is wrong.
Based on the greyish head and rufous crown and stripes, I would go for the good old Song Sparrow.

The Song Sparrow is a medium-sized American sparrow. Among the native sparrows in North America, it is easily one of the most abundant, variable and adaptable species.
