Horsetail Kelp - Laminaria digitata

Mature plants have a wide blade that is split into 6+ straplike "fingers". The stalk is very stiff and grows to 1.1 m long.

Spotted in tide pools in southern Maine.

"Laminaria digitata" is a large brown alga in the family Laminariaceae, also known by the common name Oarweed. It is found in the sublittoral zone of the northern Atlantic Ocean.
