  2. Hi Christine,
This is "our" Ectobius lapponicus - a species that has been colonizing North America since 1985 :o)
I'll take the liberty to correct the ID for you ...
    Cheers, Arp

PS: First American record on JD :o)

    1. Oh, oops ;P

Thank you! I thought the wing pattern looked wrong, but didn’t know of any other roaches that I would find in that habitat!

      1. Hi Christine, always tricky with those immigrants changing your expectancy patterns ;o)
I hope you do realize this leaves you with the burden - nay, responsibility(!) - to provide us with suitable replacement images for your native woodroach here on JD!
        :-p Arp

        1. Haha, I will certainly try ;). I did see one in rotting wood last month, but it was too fast, and all my shots were a blur!

The Dusky Cockroach is a relatively small cockroach with a dark grey-brown body, fringed with a pale translucent margin to pronotum and forewing. It is mainly ground dwelling and is easy to overlook in the scrub, grassland and woodland habitats which it favours. Adults can be seen during the summer months and fly in warm weather.
