Hermit Crab - Pagurus acadianus The subtidal zone was full of hermit crabs during low tide. This one had wide major claws and reddish stripes. I suspect that it is Pagurus acadianus, but am in the process of confirming this ID.
Here are a few videos that I took of these crabs...sorry for the poor videographer skills!
1. A top post, Christine! The photo itself is magazine class, and the videos add a lot of value. Posted one year ago
    1. Thanks Ferdy! Just wish it hadn't taken me 15+ seconds in the first video to figure out how to focus on the crab, haha. Posted one year ago

  3. These photos appear to be Pagurus longicarpus Posted one year ago
    1. Oh, thanks so much for the input. I decided on P. acadianus because it was about an inch long and had reddish orange stripes. I understood Pagurus longicarpus to be smaller and more grayish brown in coloration. Although, I agree that the major claw seems to favor a Pagurus longicarpus ID. In light of the size, do you still think it is Pagurus longicarpus? Posted one year ago, modified one year ago
