With the influx of Chinese tourists to Mabul/Sipadan Island, the demand for fresh seafood has increased tremendously.  Up to 3 years ago, this Stonefishes were hardly caught for fresh seafood, but of late, it has become a highly sought item and the I have noticed, the catch has become smaller and smaller. This ugly looking Reef Stonefish - Synanceia verrucosa has venomous spines but edible, and actually taste very good!

''Synanceia verrucosa'' is a fish species known as the reef stonefish or simply stonefish. It is a carnivorous ray-finned fish with venomous spines. It lives on reef bottoms camouflaged as a rock. It is the most venomous known fish in the world. It can be lethal to humans.
