Carolina Wild Petunia (Ruellia caroliniensis)
I will never understand how a regularly "groomed" yard is preferable to a habitat with abundant wildlife! We may not be at this location next year (we will likely be fully moved onto the new land by then), but our yard is really giving us a big show this spring/summer! Just a sampling from this past week: hundreds of Carolina Wild Petunias (Ruellia caroliniensis), a large population of Helmet Skullcaps (Scutellaria integrifolia) no longer in bloom, and countless Spring Ladies' Tresses (Spiranthes vernalis)! How is a monoculture of grass better than this?
You can see the large population of Carolina Wild Petunia above!

''Ruellia caroliniensis'', the Carolina wild petunia, is a wild petunia with blue or violet flowers that appear in the spring, summer, and autumn. Its leaves are light green. This species is native to the southeastern United States.
