Beautiful Demoiselle Damselfly (Calopteryx virgo)

This is a male. Males are territorial, perching in bankside plants and trees.

There was a host of females here and just a few males. The female has dark brown iridescent wings, a white patch near the tip of the wings (called a pseudopterostigma) and a metallic green body with a bronze tip on the abdomen. Posted 12 years ago
