Dhole - adult portrait, Zie-Zoo, Netherlands
Our reason for visiting this small zoo was a small headline in the national news that reported a whopping 12 Dhole cubs born. This species is endangered in the wild, with a population estimated below 2,500. This zoo participates in a conservation effort to save the species.
As luck would have it, the guy on his way to feed them was walking right next to us. So he lured us in, explained best viewing points, and behavior. I hope you like Dholes, because I'm going to share a lot of them :)
Some behaviors shown in the set: cubs, individual adults chasing food, adult dominant and submissive behavior, and cubs eating from the parent's mouth.

The dhole, also called the Asiatic wild dog or Indian wild dog, is a species of canid native to South and Southeast Asia. It is the only extant member of the genus ''Cuon'', which differs from ''Canis'' by the reduced number of molars and greater number of teats.
