    HORNS
Some of the most extreme body parts in nature seem to be for the sole purpose of impressing members of the opposite sex. The rhinoceros beetle (Xylotrupes gideon) is no exception. Males have massive horns that take up 2/3 of the length of their bodies. These beetles are incredibly strong—able to lift 850 times their own body weight! And, of course, they use horns to fight…over females. Males fight with each other and the winner gets mating rights. Big horns are an indicator of good health, and from a female’s perspective: the bigger, the better. After all, any male who can support such absurd appendages on his head must be a good mate! {Spotted in Indonesia by SUGIAN1212} #Rhinocerosbeetle #XylotrupesGideon
