  1. Wonderful, can't say I've ever seen anything like it. Like a crossing of a jelly and coral fungus. Posted 7 years ago
    1. It was definitely strange! And very difficult to photograph! Posted 7 years ago
  2. Hello Lisa, I am also having some difficulty in pinning down the ID of this fungus
An Example of Calocera cornea... I hope! It may be too early to decide if this fungus is not really C. viscosa. So far it seems that these are “unbranched and rarely forked” which helped me with the identification.<br />

With what I have read your photo(s) may be of C. viscosa because of the branching.?!? Gary

    1. Gary, thanks for bringing this observation back to my attention! I found out later that C. viscosa occurs primarily on conifer wood, so it would probably rule out that ID on this particular spotting .

What was the substrate for your observation?

      1. It was on a decaying deciduous log, Alnus rubra, or Red Alder. Posted 6 years ago

"Calocera cornea" is a jelly fungus that grows on decaying wood. It is a member of the Dacrymycetales, an order of fungi characterized by their unique "tuning fork" basidia.
