Sword-billed hummingbird - retreating, Jardin, Colombia
Against the light, so not a great exposure. This Sword-billed Hummingbird retreated from the feeder every few minutes. Here you can see how in a natural perch position, it is forced to tilt its head in an upward angle to balance its huge bill.
The sword-billed hummingbird is a neotropical species of hummingbird from the Andean regions of South America. It is the sole member of the genus "Ensifera" and is characterized by its unusually long bill size; it is the only bird to have a beak longer than the length of its body.
