Most hummingbirds at this feeder site in Jardin would withdraw from the feeder every few minutes to catch their breath and escape the "crowd". This Mountain velvetbreast took a break on the tree behind the feeder. But not for long, as the life of hummingbirds consist of constant feeding.

The mountain velvetbreast is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is the only member of its genus. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and heavily degraded former forest.
