Head closeup of male Panther chameleon in Madagascar
Literally the "forked leopard", because of the Panther Chameleon's leopard-like skin patterns and forked toes. There's a lot of interesting facts to know about this chameleon: 360 degree vision with the ability to observe and focus on two objects simultaneously. A myriad of color variations depending on local conditions. A tongue longer than their body, that can be launched at 20 to 30 times the body lenght per second. Ultraviolet sight. The ability to inflate itself to scare competitors. Claws optimized for holding on to even the smallest twig, and climbing the steepest trees.
Quite frankly, this beast is awesome.

The Panther Chameleon is a species of chameleon. It lives in the eastern and northern parts of Madagascar in a tropical forest biome. Additionally, it has been introduced to Réunion and Mauritius.

Note that in this case I used a cross processing effect during post processing. That sounds like a confusing sentence, I know. Posted 12 years ago
