Túngara frog camouflage - head closeup, Uraba, Colombia It&#039;s a small miracle that I didn&#039;t personally kill this frog as it was on the open path and I almost stepped on it. It&#039;s a mere 1-2cm in size and blends into its environment by being covered in its mud. This is our second observation of this frog. We never heard it call, but I looked it up, and they have an awesome mating call:<br />

  1. Nice closeup! The texture and colors are amazing. Glad you didn’t squish it! My son was horrified to squish a frog last month when we were out on one of our nighttime amphibian rescue missions. Not a pretty sight. It’s incredible camouflage was its downfall. Posted 7 years ago

The túngara frog is a species of frog in the family Leptodactylidae. Its local Spanish name is ''sapito de pustulas''.

It is found in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and possibly Guyana.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, dry savanna, moist savanna, subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland,.. more
