Flashing Tilefish (Hoplolatilus chlupatyi)
The Flashing Tilefish (Hoplolatilus chlupatyi) inhabits the Indo-Pacific. The species frequents areas with rubble or sand bottoms. This fish is famous for its ability to rapidly change color from oranges or reds to deep metallic blues, thus the common name. Photographed in 2010. The diversity of life in our oceans is outstanding. We need to do more to protect them from things like oil spills, destructive commercial fishing practices, overharvest, reef damaging behaviors, and dumping of waste.
