
Mexican Beavertail Fairy Shrimp (Thamnocephalus mexicanus)
The Mexican Beavertail Fairy Shrimp (Thamnocephalus mexicanus) is a vernal pool inhabitant. Eggs lay dormant at the bottom of depressions that will fill with rare desert rains. The life cycle is fast since the desert pools dry quickly. Photographed in New Mexico, 2013.
