An armored catfish (Ancistrus cryptophthalmus) that inhabits subterranean waters of Brasil. The armored catfish, Ancistrus cryptophthalmus, is a relative of the common aquarium “algae eating fish or plecostomus.”  The species is endemic to Brasil.  In the caves where it is found, it occurs in shallow riffles and slow pools.  It can have relatively high densities for a subterranean fish.
