Smooth-billed Ani on bushes - closeup, Uraba, Colombia
Another observation of this common bird. During this trip we developed a family joke. "Annie" is a very common dutch female name, and in fact the first name of my mother-in-law, Henriette's mother. Given her appearance we started referring to her as the "grey-capped ani".
Here's to hoping she never finds this. Luckily she doesn't understand English very well.

The smooth-billed ani is a large near passerine bird in the cuckoo family. It is a resident breeding species from southern Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, parts of Central America, south to western Ecuador, Brazil, and northern Argentina.
