Wild Cucumber
This is what the fruit of wild cucumber looks like after it has dropped its seeds. The fruit is a pod-like container that is covered with spines and holds 4 seeds. It kind of looks like a spiny watermelon. It turns papery brown as seeds ripen. Once ripe, the bottom of the pod opens up, dropping the seed to the ground. I found this pod in an anthropogenic area.

"Echinocystis" is a monotypic genus in the gourd/melon/cucumber family Cucurbitaceae, with the sole species "Echinocystis lobata", commonly called "wild cucumber", "prickly cucumber", or "balsam apple".
