Carolina Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens)

Gelsemium sempervirens is a twining vine in the Gelsemiaceae family. It is native to Georgia and is South Carolina's state wildflower. It has a wonderful aroma but contains the toxic strychnine-related alkaloids gelsemine and gelseminine which may cause skin irritation and oral poisonings in humans. In large amounts, nectar from flowers may cause brood death or weakness in honeybees.
''Gelsemium sempervirens'' is a twining vine in the family Gelsemiaceae, native to subtropical and tropical America: Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, Mexico , and southeastern and south-central United States . It has a number of common names including yellow jessamine or jasmine, Carolina jasmine or jessamine, evening trumpetflower, gelsemium and woodbine.
