Mallard Ducks Males have a dark, iridescent-green head and a yellow bill. They have a gray body, a brown breast, and a black rear. Females are mottled brown with orange-and-brown bills. Both sexes have a white-bordered, blue patch in the wing. I spotted these ducks in a large, swampy vernal pool.
