Boat-billed Heron, Uraba, Colombia
Very happy to see this bird just before sunset, as it is a nocturnal bird. It has a strangely thick and heavy bill which cannot be explained by their diet, which is just small fish and shrimp. It is speculated that their bills are highly sensitive in detecting prey moving in water, as they hunt at night.
With their bills being so explicit, it's easy to miss how huge their eyes are. Fitting for seeing in the dark, of course. If you zoom in on this front view, you'll see what I mean:

The Boat-billed Heron - colloquially known as the Boatbill - is an atypical member of the heron family, and was formerly thought to be in a monotypic family, Cochlearidae.
