Sooty-capped puffbird - side view, Uraba, Colombia
Endemic to western Colombia where it has a small range in which it is uncommon to see. Once found though, it's not a nervous bird. Like most puffbirds, it is quite stationary and does not flee easily. In this partly obstructed shot I want to show how deeply red their eyes are.

The sooty-capped puffbird is a species of puffbird in the family Bucconidae. It is endemic to Colombia. Its natural habitats are subtropical and tropical moist lowland forests and arable land. It is threatened by habitat loss.
