Painted Cup Moth - female (Doratifera oxleyi)
A dark brown cup moth with pale wing margins and dramatic orange tufts on the thorax and a thick abdomen. Wing span is 50 mm. Legs were covered with thick dark hairs.
Antennae were filamentous.
Spotted on building walls under bright lights - camp grounds.
The Painted Cup Moth is a moth of the Limacodidae family. It is found in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as South Australia and Tasmania. The wingspan is about 50 mm for females and 20 mm for males. The larvae feed on ''Eucalyptus'' species.
