  1. Is this Sciurus vulgaris? The location is Bulgaria, correct? Posted one year ago
    1. Location, yes Bulgaria but it is not red squirrel Posted one year ago, modified one year ago
      1. I didn't see any other squirrel (Sciurus) species listed for Bulgaria - it's definitely not an Eastern Gray -they don't have tufted ears. This guy is a dark morph, so even though he doesn't look particularly red, it doesn't mean he's not not a "red squirrel" Posted one year ago, modified one year ago
  2. Julian, do you believe this is an Eastern Gray Squirrel? I don't think they are recorded in Bulgaria. Posted one year ago

The red squirrel or Eurasian red squirrel is a species of tree squirrel in the genus ''Sciurus'' common throughout Eurasia. The red squirrel is an arboreal, omnivorous rodent.

In Great Britain, Italy and Ireland, numbers have decreased drastically in recent years. This decline is associated with the introduction by humans of the eastern grey squirrel from North America and habitat loss. Due to this, without conservation the species could be extirpated from Britain by 2030.
